Along with my own Kelilina clients, shooting for Sara Kauss Photography has given me the chance to work with some more of the most incredible people! This family was just so sweet, and it was fun getting to know them while taking their pictures. It’s days like these it just doesn’t feel like work - it’s just a lovely day at the beach with beautiful new friends!

Megan and Jon are expecting a baby and I’m so excited for them! I had photographed their wedding nearly a year ago and I’ll tell you what wedding photographer dreams are made of, and it’s THIS! Continuing the relationship with my clients, following them on their journey with my camera, and capturing the best moments in life for them!

Congrats M+J!

Well this darling family wanted to get a jump start on their holiday card photos, and while I TOTALLY LOVE THAT, it was so darn hot out;) We were ALL sweating after this shoot. It is still August after all! Lauren just was feeling bad for her husband, whom she dressed in long linen slacks and a sweater because it matched her and her daughter’s outfits well (she makes a great point here!). This got us to chatting about the modeling industry - how the shoots naturally are held in advance of the season of fashion they’re unveiling - so swimwear is shot in winter, and light blue linen pants and white seaters are shot in the dead of a South Florida summer! ;)

I met Rae on a professional photo shoot for her business, where shortly after she asked me to take some pictures of her boyfriend and his kids. This was a year ago, and now we’re making it a yearly tradition! They’ve since all moved in to a historical home in Hobe Sound, where they wanted a few shots taken at with their fur babies! Such a darling place on an amazingly tropical property!

These two have been a part of the Kelilina Family for years now! I took their engagement photos, and shot their wedding (which was an incredible day at The Addison in Boca Raton, FL). Then once they got pregnant we did some maternity photos in Palm Beach, held a newborn session at their home once Savannah (such a cute name right?!) was born.

Now of course they are settled in their new parenting roles, and it’s time for their first every family photo session! I hope to continue to see this family as they grow. Love you Kuminskis!

The House of Refuge in Stuart, FL is one of my absolute favorite places to shoot! The sunrise over the ocean from the cliffside is incredible, but also at sunset, the clouds light up in the east. The rocky shoreline is a unique landscape for typical Florida beaches, and the House of Refuge, set atop the sand dunes, is just the cutest thing. There’s even a dock across the street with incredible Intracoastal and sunset views. If you’re asking, this would be one of my top session location recommendations!

One thing I like to do with families of mid-age kids is to keep them involved in the workings of the session. Here and there I’ll let them choose who they get to stand by, or which family member they’d like to take a photo with. Or for every backdrop I choose, they get to choose one. Letting it be a collaboration for them keeps their interest and gets them really involved and having fun with it! And there’s nothing better than your kids EXCITED about doing another photo session next year!;)

Sometimes, when there are almost quadruple the amount of kids than adults in a photo session, I work quickly. Like real quick;) You can imagine the reasoning behind this, but if you don’t have quite the experience with little ones as I do, let me tell you that their attention span is limited.

I will coordinate with the family our ideal timing for the shoot, accounting not just for the best lighting, but also taking into consideration the littlest ones’ nap times or witching hours. Then during the session, we’ll switch backdrops a couple times, to keep their attention held. I’ll also give them a chance to explore their surroundings a bit, while I capture some candid moments of individuals or smaller groups together interacting.

Then of course I include some fun shots for the kids, whether it be silly faces, or jumping off a small sand dune, etc. And like I said, the more kids there are, or the younger they are, I stay aware of how the group as a whole is doing, so if I need to hustle a bit to squeeze it all in, I do it!

So I was photographing a newly engaged couple on the beach one night, when we were finishing up and walking back to the car I saw this adorable little family having a sunset picnic. Since they all looked so darling, I asked if they minded me taking a few photos of them, like a very mini-session. They thought it was the cutest idea, humored me, and we exchanged emails. Not 4 minutes later than when we met, we said so-long.

Sometimes the unexpected turn out to be the most beautiful moments and experiences, and we should all just say “yes” and “why not?” more often!
